FTP and zones

Both tests can estimate FTP, but they do not measure exactly the same thing and may favor different profiles.

Recommended steps

  • Always use the same type of test if you want to compare progress.
  • Do it rested and with a good warm-up.
  • Do not compare results from different tests as if they were identical.
  • If a result makes workouts impossible, adjust cautiously.
  • Do not repeat tests every few days out of anxiety.
  • FTP is for training better, not for winning an argument.
