An FTP that is too high turns normal sessions into survival. There is nothing wrong with lowering it if the plan becomes impossible.
Recommended steps
- You fail reasonable workouts several days in a row.
- Tempo or sweet spot zones feel like racing.
- ERG frequently locks you up.
- You need to lower intensity to finish almost everything.
- First rule out fatigue, poor sleep, or illness.
- Lower FTP a little and observe several sessions.
